Finding a Good Match With a Dallas Bankruptcy Lawyer

If a bankruptcy lawyer in Dallas TX has any lessons learned from the Great Recession, it is that it is good to save for a rainy day and that nobody –not even them– are immune from the scourges of a perfect economic storm. Many a bankruptcy lawyer in Dallas TX has gone home at night after a day of listening to tragic stories that have affected their neighbors, friends and even relatives.  Lessons learned can apply even to them.

It is not hard to find an attorney in Dallas.  It can be hard, though, to find an attorney that can understand a person’s individual needs and goals.  This is not because some attorneys are better or worse than others, but like a friendship, some get along better with one type of client over another.   It serves both client and lawyer better if there is a good match.

That match is not just the responsibility of the lawyer, though.  A prospective client must take an involved role in their process and situation.  The client must have an understanding of the situation and what the consequences will be if they do file a Chapter 7 or a Chapter 13 bankruptcy.  Once it is understood what happens during a filing,  then the client can work towards achieving certain goals.  There is life after filing and it’s always better to try to retain all that a person can.  An attorney will guide people, but they must be their own best advocates.

To find an attorney in Dallas is as easy as doing a search on the internet.  Most lawyers have web sites, and others are listed on the state bar associations.  A friend or a relative may refer a person to a good attorney, and some churches and organizations will have lawyer names on file, too.

When the consultation begins with the attorney the advice may be to file one or the other Chapters, or the recommendation may be to work out a private settlement with creditors and keep the court out.  Every case is different.  There is no template.

Each Dallas TX bankruptcy attorney has a desk full of tragic stories.  One day a person is doing well and the next losing everything.  Not all are extreme cases, though.  No matter how tragic or how “ordinary”, each lawyer is doing a service to the economy as a whole by working to make sure debtors and creditors reach a just settlement.
