Credit Cards Make It Easy To Give Yourself A Debt Problem
Friday, May 8th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedHuge debts have brought problems for people at home and around the world. Excessive debt has led to companies going bust, banks falling over and individuals losing their homes. So, is all debt bad or does debt have an important function in modern life.
Sometimes we borrow money for good reasons buy often we are stupid and careless when we take on debt. We have probably all bought things and then wondered why we did it. It is all too easy to impulse buy when you have a credit card in your purse.
It's somehow harder to spend real money and make purchases because we don't want to use it all up. The difference with using a credit card is that it just doesn't feel like real money and it is more like playing the board game Monopoly.
I always find I stop and think for a moment when I am making larger purchases and I ask myself if I really need to spend that money. If you can manage a large loan repayment comfortably then you will have taken the time to think it through first.
Knowing what are good debts or bad debts is what we need to understand? The deciding factor is what you will use the loan for. If you need medical treatment to keep you alive that is clearly a good debt to take on just as a college course is worth it if you will earn more because of the course.
If you have a decent car then buying a new one on a new loan is likely to be a bad debt to take on. If you have a TV you bought in recent years it is not a good debt to treat yourself to a new one if the older one is still perfectly ok. Borrowing money you can't afford to repay is a bad debt and a mistake unless you can see how you will have the money in the future.
You need to start focusing on where your money goes and how you can manage it better if your debts are becoming more than you can handle. Learn how to budget and find a debt program to help you prioritize your debts and pay off the most expensive debts first.
